Nostra Aetate Conference – 60 Years After the Declaration

Three Faiths – One Hope: 60 Years after Nostra Aetate At a time when daily news often reflects increasing polarization, the ability to engage in dialogue between people of different religious beliefs is more important than ever. Particularly, relations among Muslim, Christian, and Jewish communities today face new challenges that can only be overcome through mutual understanding. Against this backdrop, the Forum for Intercultural Dialogue e.V., together with its partners, invites you to an international conference on November 5, 2025, in Frankfurt am Main. The conference gathers leading international representatives of interfaith dialogue: religious leaders, scholars, experts, and practitioners from Nigeria, Albania, Israel, Poland, the USA, Indonesia, and other countries will share their experiences and perspectives on interreligious dialogue. The goal is to explore ways to foster respectful and peaceful coexistence and to set new impulses for the future. The timing of the conference is historically significant: exactly 60 years ago, on October 26, 1965, the Catholic Church adopted the declaration “Nostra Aetate” (“In Our Time”) in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. This remarkable document marked the beginning of a new era of openness and recognition towards non-Christian religions. Nostra Aetate explicitly affirmed interreligious respect and the appreciation of other faiths as genuine partners on equal footing.

With this conference, we seek to keep the spirit of Nostra Aetate alive and carry it forward. Prominent speakers will reflect on the theological and social significance of the declaration and shed light on current developments in interfaith dialogue. The focus is on the three great monotheistic religions – Judaism, Christianity, and Islam – and how their voices today can bring new hopes and perspectives. Conference Program The event spans two intensive days, featuring thematic lectures, interactive workshops, and panel discussions. Beyond academic input, personal exchange and networking are central to developing practical approaches to interreligious dialogue.
